ISLAMABAD – United Nations Chief makes strong statement over formerPresident Pervaiz Musharraf death penalty verdict.
The United Nations has opposed the death sentence handed down to formerPresident General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf in absentia for high treason.
A spokesman of the UN Secretary General António Guterres was addressing anews briefing at the UN Headquarters in New York.
Spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that he understood that the case is in anappeal process, but the UN has long been opposed to capital punishment.
“The United Nations stands against the death penalty,” he added.
