Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Asif Saeed Khosa retires tonight

ISLAMABAD – Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Asif Saeed Khosa is setto retire at midnight on Friday after serving for almost 11 months.

On Friday, Khosa took up his last case hearing at the Supreme Court. Thecase related to Amna Bibi, who was critically injured by firing in Murree.

The legal representative of Amna Bibi told the court that accused Sajid,Rashid and Qadeer barged into the house of the victim and opened fire onher.

He added when the accused were produced in the court, Amna Bibi did notraise objection over their bail.

The chief justice remarked it seems that the situation took an ugly turnafter the said incident. He added Amna Bibi is still in hospital withbullets inside her body.

Khosa said the court is not issuing any orders in the case as it is stillbeing heard.

He took oath this year on January 18 after the retirement of Saqib Nisar onJan 17. Justice Khosa will be replaced by Justice Gulzar Ahmed. JusticeGulzar will take charge as the country’s chief justice on December 21, aday after the retirement of Justice Khosa. Justice Gulzar will be the 27thCJP and his tenure will end on February 1, 2022.

Justice Khosa over the course of his nearly two decade long careerhas decided about 55,000 cases. A special bench headed by him has decidedover 10,000 cases of a criminal nature since 2014. On February 18, 2010,Justice Khosa was elevated to the position of a Supreme Court judge.

Justice Khosa was among the two who said that former prime minister NawazSharif should be disqualified. He was also part of the benchthat acquitted Aasia Bibi, a Christian woman sentenced to death forblasphemy charges.
