Chinese University offers scholarships for the Pakistani students in collaboration with HEC

ISLAMABAD – Chinese University offers scholarships for the Pakistanistudents in collaboration with Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Southeast University (SEU),China have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to collaborate for academic andresearch linkages.

The document was signed by Dr. Fateh Marri, Executive Director HEC andProf. Zheng Jiamao, Vice President, SEU during a meeting of Chinesedelegation comprising delegates from SEU and China Road and BridgeCorporation with HEC management held at the Commission Secretariat inIslamabad.

According to the Letter of Intent, both sides will look for ways to advanceexchange and collaboration in the fields of education, culture and providebetter opportunities for faculty members and students. The activities willinclude scholarships for Bachelor’s and Master’s programme in identifieddisciplines, faculty exchange, joint seminars and conferences, studentexchange as well as postdoctoral opportunities at SEU.

Both sides discussed the establishment of academic and research linkagesbetween Pakistani Universities and SEU, China. Southeast University (SEU)is one of the leading universities under the direct administration of theMinistry of Education, China.

Earlier, HEC and CRBC inked an agreement in October 2017 under which atotal of 100 Pakistani Civil Engineers would avail fully funded scholarshipto study Masters of Transportation Engineering and its subfields at SEU.Out of these, 10 Pakistani students have already graduated from SEU while40 students are currently enrolled and pursuing their studies.

Prof. Dr. Zheng Jiameo, Vice president informed the audience about qualityeducation at SEU. It is also listed in National “Project 211” and “Program985” financed by the Chinese Government to build world-class universities.

He added the SEU has become a comprehensive university offering Programmesin Engineering, Medicine, Humanities, BioSciences & Information Sciencesetc. Vice President of SEU showed a great interest for collaboration withHEC & Pakistani universities.

Talking to the Chinese delegates, Dr. Marri informed them about theconsortium of Pakistani and Chinese universities and emphasized that thisplatform should be utilized for identifying the areas in which two sidescan collaborate at an individual as well as institutional levels.

Dr. Marri further stressed that with enhanced coordination between the twosides and also through the involvement of China Association of HigherEducation, specific areas may be identified for mutual benefit.

“A number of Pakistani students are moving to China for higher studies andwe want that they choose good universities like SEU so they can effectivelycontribute upon their return.”
