ISLAMABAD – The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his ConservativeParty have secured a sweeping victory in the national election , winningmore than 360 of the 650 seats in the House of Commons – the party’slargest majority since under Margaret Thatcher in the 1980s.
The result handed Johnson his first national election victory but alsodelivered a dramatic blow to his main competitor, opposition leader JeremyCorbyn, whose Labour Party suffered heavy losses.
This election means that getting Brexit down is now the irrefutable,irresistible, unarguable decision of the British people,” said Johnson onFriday morning.
Speaking in London, the Prime Minister said he has a mandate to take the UKout of the EU next month “no ifs, no buts”.
Jeremy Corbyn said he will not fight another election as Labour leaderafter the party was swept aside in its traditional heartlands.
Labour has suffered its worst defeat since 1935, losing seats acrossnorthern England, the Midlands and Wales in areas which backed Brexit inthe 2016 referendum.
