ISLAMABAD – Russia will help boost Pakistan’s economy by cooperating invarious fields including aircraft manufacturing, state media said Wednesday.
Visiting Russian Trade Minister Denis Valentinovich told reporters in thecapital Islamabad that his country was looking forward for jointcollaborations, Radio Pakistan reported.
“We will extend cooperation to Pakistan to revive the Steel Mills andenhance its productivity,” the Russian minister said.
Pakistan Steel Mills, a mega industrial complex having the productioncapacity of over one million tons of steel and iron foundries, was builtwith contribution of the Soviet Union in 1973.
He said that his country also wants to cooperate with Pakistan in theaircraft manufacturing sector.
Pakistan’s Economy Minister Hammad Azhar also addressing reporters welcomedthe offer, stating there is huge scope of cooperation between the twocountries in the energy sector.
“There are tremendous opportunities to enhance cooperation in the fields oftrade, business to business relations and people to people contacts,” Azharsaid.
He added that his country desires to transform relations with Russia into astrategic partnership.
Earlier during a delegation level meeting in the Foreign Ministry, bothcountries agreed to increase volume of bilateral trade from the presentlevels to its true potential through greater cooperation and enhancedbusiness activities by the private sector of both the countries.
The Russian side invited Pakistan to organize a road show in Moscow toprovide an opportunity to the Russian private companies to explore newavenues in Pakistan.
Pakistan on the other hand urged Russia to attend trade fairs in thecountry.
A Russian business delegation is also present in Pakistan holding meetingswith Pakistani business people to explore opportunities.
