ISLAMABAD – Chief Secretary Punjab Major, retired, Azam Suleman Khan saidthat improvement in governance, public service delivery and promotion oftransparency in the province is top priority of the government.
Addressing a meeting of senior civil and police officers at CivilSecretariat in Lahore on Friday, the Chief Secretary said that performanceof officers would be reviewed on a monthly basis and those who would failto deliver would be sent packing.
He said that officers would be given free hand but they would be heldaccountable.
He said that merit and transparency would have to be promoted to improveperformance of departments.
He directed the officers to perform their duties diligently and honestly sothat desired targets could be achieved and said that corruption andnepotism would not be tolerated in any case.
He said that the government wants to address problems of the common man. Hedirected the officers to keep doors of their offices open for the public toresolve their problems.
Chief Secretary Punjab said that implementation of open door policy andobservance of office hours must be ensured.
He said that civil and police officers should enhance coordination and holdjoint open courts in districts. He also issued instructions toadministrative secretaries to conduct field visit of districts and submit areport on regular basis. He announced that he would himself pay surprisevisits to districts along with Inspector General of Police.
He warned that profiteers, hoarders, and adulterators would be dealt withsternly. He directed the divisional commissioners to ensure availability ofdaily use commodities at the prices fixed by the government and said thatdeputy commissioners and district police officers must visit fruit andvegetable markets to supervise auction process.
He ordered that campaign against adulteration and spurious drugs beexpedited and stern action be taken against land grabbers. He asked thecommissioner and deputy commissioners to pay special attention to treeplantation and measures to combat smog.
The Chief Secretary also issued instructions regarding use of IT to improvegovernance, timely resolution of complaints received through PakistanCitizen Portal and holding regular meetings of divisional and districtintelligence committees.
