ISLAMABAD – The Ministry of Law and Justice has issued notification ofappointing Justice Gulzar Ahmed as the Chief Justice of Pakistan afterapproval from President Arif Alvi, media reported on Wednesday.
Justice Gulzar Ahmed will replace Justice Asif Saeed Khosa who will retireon December 20. The new chief justice will assume charge on December 21.
Justice Gulzar will be the 27th Chief Justice of Pakistan and his tenurewill end on February 1, 2022. The new chief justice was born in Karachi in1957 and pursued his career in Law. After becoming a lawyer, JusticeGulzar started practicing in the Sindh High Court in 1986.
In 1988, he elevated to the Supreme Court as an advocate. Later, he swornin as the Sindh High Court judge in 1992. He has been serving as the apexcourt judge since November 16, 2011.
Justice Gulzar has been part of benches deciding high-profile cases and hadauthored many landmark judgments.
Justice Gulzar was part of the bench which heard the famous Panama case anddisqualified the ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif in a historic judgment.
