Samsung to unveil two large display foldable smartphones

ISLAMABAD – Samsung to unveil two large display foldable smartphones.

Samsung is working on expanding its foldable smartphone segment.Reportedly, the Korean Giant is planning to launch two foldable smartphonesnext year. One of them will be a clamshell foldable smartphone with acomparatively lower price tag to make it a mass-market product.

The second foldable smartphone will most likely be the successor to the2019-launched Samsung Galaxy Fold.

We don’t have much information about Galaxy Fold’s successor but theclamshell folding smartphone is expected to launch in February 2019alongside the Samsung Galaxy S11 lineup.

Recently, Samsung also released a beta version of its OneUI 2.0. Accordingto the build, the cover display of the Clamshell foldable smartphone willbe used to display basic information such as important notifications,battery information while charging and a few animations that are part ofOneUI 2.0. According to reports, the retail price of this smartphone willbe $845. As mentioned, Samsung is changing its pricing strategy to convertfoldable smartphones into a mass-market product.

Choi Bo-young, an analyst at Kyobo Securities, talking about Samsung’sstrategy said:

Samsung’s plan to expand the foldable product lineup depends on the marketresponse to the clamshell model slated for launch in 2020, but it is clearthe firm will increase the lineup.

Apart from this, Let’sGoDigital revealed that Samsung filed a patent for aMate X-like outward folding smartphone with the Hague International DesignSystem in May. The official announcement was made on 29th November.

As far as other OEMs are concerned, they are also working on expandingtheir foldable smartphone portfolio. Xiaomi is allegedly working on atriple folding smartphone and LG is expected to debut its foldablesmartphone next year.
