CJP Justice Asif Saeed Khosa chairs session of the Police Reforms Committee

LAHORE – Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Asif Saeed Khosa chairs sessionof the Police Reforms Committee.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Asif Saeed Khosa on Saturday saidsummoning senior officials to courts is not good. He said we must ensurethat courts are providing justice to the public.

Addressing a ceremony, he said if institutions are working efficiently thencourts need not to interfere them. He said respect must be given to thosewho appear in the courts.

“Whenever a matter captures the public s attention, people expect a suomoto notice,” he said. “If the government institution is active beforehandthen the court does not need to take a notice on it,” he added.

Justice Khosa said the issues may be core complex if Supreme Court (SC)starts intervening from day one. He said a matter comes to SC afterinvestigation and trial.

“One should maintain the dignity of a police official or any other personwho appears before the court,” he said.

CJP said retired police officers played an important role in reformscommittee, adding that as lawyer and as judge he had a pleasant relationwith police.

He said model courts have brought revolution in the judicial history ofPakistan.

Earlier, CJP chaired the session of Police Reforms Committee (PRC) – whichwas constituted in January to table recommendations for improvements in thepolicing system of the country – to examine progress achieved in reforms inthe police department.

The session was attended by inspector generals of four provinces, GilgitBaltistan and Islamabad.
