Chennai: Thousands of Muslims marched in India’s Chennai against thecontroversial citizenship law despite police declining them permissionstage a protest.
According to details, people in thousands protested against Narendra Modiled Indian government for passing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), alaw that specifically excludes Muslims.
The protesters held anti-CAA banners and raised slogans against Modigovernment for introducing a controversial law.
Yesterday, a Muslim couple in India tied the knot at the venue of protestagainst the controversial citizenship law.
Holding an anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) placard, the couple gotmarried at the venue of a protest in Chennai.
Reportedly, the couple, named Sumayya and Shahin Shah, had been taking partin the protests happening against CAA in India and decided to tie the knotat the venue in Chennai.
A proper ceremony was performed at the venue by the Imam and later thenewlyweds were showered with gifts.
The couple had been protesting actively against CAA and decided to tie theknot at the same place with elders agreeing to it.
The bride donned a bright red saree, while the groom wore maroon kurtashalwar.
Protests against CAA, a controversial law that has made religion acriterion for citizenship, have flared since last December.
The law, which is discriminatory against Muslims in nature, only allowsnon-Muslims from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh to get Indiancitizenship if they entered India before 2015 due to persecution in theircountries.
Many bollywood celebrities including Deepika Padukone, Mahesh Bhatt, PoojaBhatt, Anurag Kashyp, Pareeniti Chopra, Swara Bhaskar, Dia Mirza and othershave raised their voices against the controversial law that excludes andspecifically targets Muslims.
