Complete shutdown in Occupied Kashmir on 7th martyrdom anniversary of Hurriyat leader Afzal Guru

SRINAGAR – Complete shutdown is being observed on Sunday to mark the 7thmartyrdom anniversary of Kashmiri Hurriyat leader Muhammad Afzal Guru inIndian Occupied Kashmir (IoK).

According to the KMS, call for the shutdown has been given by the AllParties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz UmarFarooq-led Hurriyat forum, the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front and otherpro-freedom leaders and organizations.

Stringent measures have been taken in the name of security to preventanti-India protests. A large number of personnel of Indian army, police andparamilitary forces have been deployed in all important places. All shopsand business establishments are closed in Srinagar and other parts of theterritory while traffic is off the road.

The leaders and organizations have also called for complete shutdown onTuesday on the occasion of the martyrdom anniversary of another prominentliberation leader, Muhammad Maqbool Butt.

India had hanged Muhammad Afzal GurulinkinNew Delhi’s Tihar Jail on 9th February, 2013 and Muhammad Maqbool Butt inthe same jail on 11th February, 1984, for their role in Kashmir freedommovement. Their bodies remain buried in the premises of the jail.
