NEW DELHI – India developed a tank for its army to equip them with a newweapon; however, its army already hates the poorly made and overly budgeted‘Arjun’ Tank.
According to details, following the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971, Indiadecided to build its own main battle tank which would help the country infighting mainstream wars.
The service date of tank ‘Arjun’ was set for 1985, but it suffered massivedelay due to tortuously long development period spanning over two centuries.
Now that the tank has been fully developed and introduced to the IndianArmy years later than originally planned, the Army does not like the designand structure at all.
According to the army officials, the development period of Arjun was solong that major design decisions became completely obsolete.
It is reported that in 2009, despite shortcomings revealed in testing, theIndian Army was forced to buy 124 Arjuns. The decision was taken in orderto equip two armored regiments.
Two years later, nearly 75 percent of the Arjun force was inoperable due totechnical problems. The concerned authorities tried fixing the technicalfaults but the end result has still not been satisfactory for the IndianArmy.
Indian government has blamed Defence Research and Development Organization(DRPO) stating that they could not built Arjun on time which doomed thetank.
