NEW DELHI – Indian Cricket Board BCCI makes important statement overplaying in Pakistan for Asia Cup 2020.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made it clear theywill not participate in the Asia Cup later this year, if the tournamenttakes place in Pakistan.
While speaking to Indo-Asian News Service (IANS) on Tuesday, a BCCIofficial said that Indian board is open to the idea of playing at a neutralvenue.
“The question isn”t about the PCB hosting the tournament. It is about thevenue and as things stand now, it is quite clear that we would need aneutral venue.
There is no way that an Indian team can visit Pakistan to even participatein a multi-nation event like the Asia Cup,” BCCI official was quoted assaying by IANS.
“If the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is ok with an Asia Cup minus India thenit is a different ball game. But if India is to participate in the AsiaCup, then the venue cannot be Pakistan.”
“A neutral venue is always an option. BCCI did it in 2018,” he added.
BCCI also hosted the 2018 Asia Cup in UAE because of strained politicalrelations between Pakistan and India, which made it difficult to obtainvisas for the Men in Green players to play in India.
