ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Energy, Omar Ayub Khan and SpecialAssistant to Prime Minister on Petroleum Nadeem Babar shared with HighCommissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan Ikram Muhammad Ibrahim, the structuralreforms being carried out in the Energy sector of the country includingwith a special focus on the ease of doing business in the energy sector ofPakistan.
High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan Ikram Muhammad Ibrahim had calledon Federal Minister for Energy, Omar Ayub Khan and Nadeem Babar, SpecialAssistant to Prime Minister on Petroleum at the Petroleum Division onMonday. The High Commissioner apprised the Minister and the SpecialAssistant about preparations being undertaken for the upcoming visit ofPrime Minister Imran Khan to Malaysia.
Federal Minister, Omar Ayub Khan invited Malaysian investors to fullyparticipate in the auction of oil and gas blocks that will be offered toforeign investors shortly with 18 initial blocks in the first phase.
The SAPM also shared the possibility of Petronas acquiring divested sharesfrom OGDCL, PPL and Mari Petroleum that will be divested to sharedpartners. Babar also invited Petronas to favorably look at LNGinfrastructure development opportunities in Pakistan. He also mentionedMalaysian investors can benefit in areas such as LPG, refinery upgradationetc.
The Malaysian envoy commended initiatives taken by the Federal Minister,SAPM and Petroleum Division to facilitate ease of doing business inPakistan’s Energy sector and remarked that Malaysia looked at Pakistan ingeneral and the Pakistani Energy market as of great potential.
He also appreciated the fiscal stabilization agenda of the presentGovernment which is akin to such a process being executed in Malaysia. Hewas optimistic on Petronas establishing a strong presence in Pakistan in across section of Pakistan’s energy industry.
The Malaysian High Commissioner expressed feelings of warmth and a specialplace that the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dr. Mahatir Muhammad has towardsthe state and people of Pakistan. He shared how the Malaysian Government islooking forward towards the Prime Minister’s visit.
Omar Ayub Khan and Nadeem Babar reciprocated the sentiments of the HighCommissioner and mentioned that Prime Minister Imran Khan attaches greatimportance to Malaysia and has deep respect for Dr. Mahatir Muhammad whomhe notes is an elder statesman who has been his role model in politics.They agreed that both countries are close and the existing bonds wouldcement further by PM Khan’s visit and in the years to come.
