Lahore, 23 January 2020: International Cricket Council chief executive ManuSawhney today concluded his two-day visit to Pakistan following positiveand constructive meetings in Islamabad and Lahore.
PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani and chief executive Wasim Khan accompanied MrSawhney and ICC General Manager – Commercial, Campbell Jamieson, to ameeting with Mrs Fahmida Mirza, Federal Minister for Inter ProvincialCoordination, in Islamabad on Wednesday.
In Lahore on Thursday, they visited the Lahore Safe City Project beforereceiving a presentation from the PCB team at the National Cricket Academy.
Mr Sawhney’s visit was part of the ICC’s initiative to meet all Members andbrief them on the process to be adopted for the allocation of ICC Events inthe 2023-2031 cycle comprising eight men’s events, eight women’s events,four men’s U19 events and four Women’s U19 events.
In the meeting with the PCB officials at the National Cricket Acaemy, MrSawhney and Mr Jamieson also made a detailed and comprehensive presentationon the ICC’s expectations, criteria and selection process for the eventhosts, including timelines for bid submissions.
Mr Sawhney also updated the PCB on the work being done by the ICC forcricket promotion, development, global strategy, financial growth, and alsobriefed on the challenges world cricket faces.
PCB chief executive Wasim Khan said: “We had positive, constructive andwide-ranging meetings with the ICC in relation to the 2023-2031 eventcycle. As part of our vision, we want to push on and host a number of ICCglobal events during the next rights cycle.
“So, from that perspective, it was excellent to get an insight into theICC’s expectations and requirements so that we can accordingly plan andprepare our bid document.
“We now have a clearer idea of what will be required from us and so we willnow go away from this meeting and think through our strategy forapproaching the bid process. We are determined and keen to host ICC Eventsin the next events cycle and understand this will not be a straightforwardproject. We will require a lot of support from the government as well allstakeholders.
“It was also good to understand the work being done by the ICC in Dubai forthe betterment of world cricket. As a responsible and key Member of theICC, the PCB remains committed to playing its role in taking cricket to thenext level.”
