ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi hits back hardagainst American criticism of Pakistan China CPEC project.
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that when it comes to theChina-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Pakistan will continue to do whatis beneficial to it.
In a statement released by his office on Thursday morning, the FM said thatPakistan will implement its policies regarding CPEC which is favourable forthe country.
The remarks by the FM comes following the concerns expressed by US chiefdiplomat for South Asia Ambassador Alice Wells on the lack of transparencyin CPEC projects. She claimed that Chinese financing of CPEC projectsthrough loans was adding to Pakistan’s debt burden.
Following her statement, China issued a statement opposing the USinterference in China-Pakistan relations and the CPEC.
“We would be more than glad to see the US develop its relationship withPakistan, but we strongly oppose the US interference in China-Pakistanrelations and the CPEC.…
we have to make our position clear and reject the negative propaganda bythe US. We must not let the truth be distorted and the lies run wild,” thestatement read.
