Pakistan imports over 300,000 tons of wheat to overcome shortage of supply

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan imports over 300,000 tons of wheat to overcomeshortage of supply.

Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) at its meeting in Islamabad on Mondayapproved import of three hundred thousand tons of wheat.

The meeting was chaired by Adviser on Finance Hafeez Sheikh.

The Economic Coordination Committee was informed that the first shipment ofwheat is likely to arrive in the country by 15th of next month.

The committee asked Punjab and PASSCO to release their stocks to overcomewheat shortage in the country. The meeting was informed that Punjab andPASSCO have wheat stocks of forty one lakh tons.

The Economic Coordination Committee also approved Gas InfrastructureDevelopment Cess (GIDC) waiver of four hundred rupees per bag to ensuresupply of cheap fertilizers to the farmers.
