PM Imran Khan writes letter to Opposition Leader Shahbaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan writes letter to Opposition LeaderShahbaz Sharif.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has written a letter to Opposition Leader in theNational Assembly Shehbaz Sharif for consultation on the appointment of thechief election commissioner (CEC).

The prime minister has proposed three names for the post of the chiefelection commissioner. The proposed names include former federalsecretaries Jamil Ahmed, Fazal Abbas Maikan and Sikandar Sultan Raja.

“I am writing a letter to you for meaningful talks. I want to resolve thelong-pending issue of the appointment of the CEC. I am sending thereorganized penal to you,” he added.

Earlier on January 10, the government and the opposition agreed to bringnew names for the appointment of the Chief Election Commission (CEC) afterdeadlock.

Both parties had withdrawn their earlier proposed names. Now they willrecommend new names to the parliamentary committee in next few days.

The sources also informed that a parliamentary committee meeting is likelyto be held next week for the appointments of the CEC and the ElectionCommission of Pakistan (ECP) members.
