ISLAMABAD – PTI government unveils new Electric Vehicles Policy incollaboration with the stake holders.

Advisor to Prime Minister of Industries & Production, Commerce, Textile andInvestment Abdul Razzak Dawood chaired the 30th meeting of Auto IndustryDevelopment Committee (AIDC) to discuss local manufacturing ElectricVehicles, organized by Engineering Development Board (EDB) Ministry ofIndustries and Production.

Advisor to the PM, while announcing the way forward, urged that “Make inPakistan” will be supported in each policy including EV Manufacturing, theimports will be discouraged and provision of jobs to youth will be targetedwhile aiming to achieve environmental goals.——————————

All major stakeholders including Pakistan Automotive ManufacturersAssociation (PAMA), Pakistan Association of Auto Parts and AccessoriesManufacturers (PAAPAM), Senior officials from Ministry of Industries &Production, Engineering Development Board, Federal Board of Revenue,Planning Commission of Pakistan, Ministry of Science and Technology,Ministry of Commerce, leading car manufacturers, truck & bus manufacturers,2-3 wheeler manufacturers attended the meeting.

Replying to a query by PAMA, the advisor announced that the EV Policy isthe domain of Ministry of Industries and Production (MoIP) as per rules ofbusiness and EDB has been designated at the secretariat of EV Policy. Heauthorized the preparation of a policy to EDB and asked to submit the firstdraft within a month.

The entire automotive sector expressed relief on the announcement by theadvisor that the task is handed over to a technical organization which isthe most relevant body working for the promotion of the automotive sector.

Various tariff and non-tariff proposals were discussed in the meeting. Theparticipants were of the view that the advisor may grant them 15-20 daysfor the submission of concrete proposals on local manufacturing of EVs.Chairman EDB advised the participants from various segments of theautomotive sector to expedite the submission of their proposals to EDB inview of the timeline given by the Advisor——————————

The investment under the Auto Development Policy (ADP 2016-21), proposalsby various companies to invest in EVs under ADP, standardization ofequipment, promotion of localization, exports of parts and components inthe long run, employment generation and positive impact on nationalexchequer were the main discussion points in the meeting.

Advisor to PM also emphasized that the policy will be prepared to best suitthe needs of our country.

In addition, the investment made in the part manufacturing will also besafeguarded. Explaining the importance of EVs, he emphasized thatsynchronized efforts are required to shift to EVs in order to achieve thebest possible results.
