PTI government hints at new constitutional amendment over Election Laws

ISLAMABAD – Minister for Narcotics Control Azam Swati says government iscommitted to its reforms agenda.

Addressing a news conference along with Education Minister Shafqat Mahmoodin Islamabad today, he said legislation for reforms agenda requiresmajority in Upper and Lower Houses of the parliament.

He said the legal bills proposed by the government stay pending for monthsin the Senate. Azam Swati said we want to use show of hands method forSenate elections to remove the chances of horse trading and to bringtransparency in the process.

Azam Swati said consensus will be developed in cooperation with otherparties on the issue.

Speaking on the occasion, Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood said electionamendments are being brought in Senate elections to remove horse trading.

He said 39 recommendations have been submitted to cabinet to make theprocess of election and results transparent. He said one of them suggestsdelimitation of constituencies should be completed four months before theconduct of elections.

Shafqat Mahmood said strict punishments have been recommended for thosemaking the election process dubious.
