Federal government unveils new digital media policy for advertisements and government commercials

ISLAMABAD – The government has decided to float official advertisements andcommercials on social media under new Digital Policy.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting between journalists ofsocial media and owners of YouTube channels, and Prime Minister Imran Khanin Islamabad today.

Briefing media after the meeting, Special Assistant to the Prime Ministeron Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan said the PressInformation Department has been directed to prepare a line of action andStandard Operating Procedures for YouTube channels across the country.

She said a new desk will be set up at the PID for provision ofaccreditation and registration cards to owners of YouTube channels in thecountry.

Highlighting significance of digital media, the Special Assistant saidsocial media is rapidly replacing electronic media.

She said the government will impart special training to youth on usage ofsocial media and digital technology. She said the government will activateyouth.

During the meeting, the social media journalists briefed the prime ministerabout challenges being faced by media industry and digital technology inmodern era.
