*ISLAMABAD – **Pakistan makes $3 million donation for the SAARC emergencyfund for regional fight against coronavirus.*
*Pakistan has pledged $3 million for the SAARC emergency fund to supportregional efforts against coronavirus, its Foreign Office saidlinkThursday.*
Pakistan informed SAARC that the fund should be administered by itssecretariat and utilised after consultation with all members, the ForeignOffice said in a statement.
“Being a founding member, Pakistan considers SAARC an important platformfor regional cooperation,” the statement read.
“Pakistan remains committed to the SAARC process and will continue workingwith the Member States to strengthen regional cooperation.”
The emergency fund was proposed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in avideo conference of the SAARC leaders two weeks ago. He had offered acontribution of $10 million.
Bangladesh has already pledged $1.5 million, Afghanistan $1 million,Maldives $2 million, Nepal $1 million, Bhutan $100,000 and Sri Lanka $5million.
