ISLAMABAD -;Minister for Railways, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Sunday saidPakistan railways was facing loss of one billion rupees due to lock down inthe country.
Every week, the railway was losing Rs one billion due to suspension oftrain service, in wake of Coronavirus threat, he stated while talking to aprivate news channel programme. Commenting on time frame for resumption oftrain service, he said the decision would be taken after April 14.
He hoped that after normalization of situation, 22 trains could be madeoperational to facilitate the passengers waiting anxiously for enjoyingcomfortable service to reach their homes. Giving example of India, theminister said the people living in the neighboring country had to faceimmense trouble due to closure of communication system. He added that somepeople while travelling long distances by foot had lost their lives becausethey could not find train or any other communication services for reachingtheir home.
To a question about sugar and wheat report, he said the responsible personsshould be awarded punishment. Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said that corruptioncould not be made without involving bureaucrat and politicians. Theminister said there was a sugar mafia in the country who wanted to intrudeinto the affairs of economic coordination committee to fulfill theirdesigns. To another question regarding weak accountability process, he saidnot a single thief involved in money laundering was found in jail.
