Taliban plays havoc upon Afghanistan National Army Base with dozens of soldiers killed and huge quantity of Arms captured

*At least 27 security personnel were killed when a military base wasstormed in Afghanistan on Thursday, in one of the biggest attacks since aviolence reduction agreement was signed between the United States and theTaliban last month.*

The Afghan government blamed the attack on the Taliban, with whom theUnited States signed a peace deal last month for an eventual pullout offoreign forces from Afghanistan in exchange for reduced violence by themilitant group, Reuters has reported.

As part of the agreement, the Taliban was also supposed to begin talks witha delegation of Afghan leaders for sustained peace in the country – but theprocess never took off after disagreement on the release of prisoners.

Armed Taliban fighters stormed a joint military base of the Afghan NationalDefence Forces in the southern province of Zabul late Thursday night,according to a member of the provincial council, Haji Atta Jan Haqbayan.

The clash continued till the early hours of Friday, leaving 27 members ofthe Afghan forces dead, Haqbayan said, adding that the Taliban fightersleft the area after capturing weapons and ammunition.

The Taliban did not respond to requests for comment. “The attack happenedwith the help of infiltrators,” a spokesman for the Zabul provincialgovernor said. –
