KP government declared emergency across the province under NDMA KP Act 2010

ISLAMABAD – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has declared an ‘ExtremeWeather Emergency’ across the province till 14 March as torrential rain andsnowfall have wreaked havoc over the past week.

KP government has imposed the emergency under Section 16(A)(i) of theNational Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) KP Act 2010.

Till Sunday, at least 17 people were reported dead and 38 injured inrain-related incidents all over KP.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), 57 housescollapsed in the province during the past week due to severe rain and snow,causing most of the deaths.

The government has tasked the Provincial Relief, Rehabilitation andSettlement Department to join hands with district administrations toprovide food and shelter to the affected people.

Moreover, the government has tasked Deputy Commissioners of all affecteddistricts to set up temporary shelters (Panahgahs) to accommodate thepeople rendered homeless in rain-related incidents while stepping upefforts to rebuild their houses.Weather Forecast

The Met Office has stated that extreme weather conditions will prevail inthe province this week.

It has predicted gusty winds and heavy rainfall in central and lower partsof KP while upper parts of the province will experience another spell ofsnowfall this week.
