KARACHI: In a positive development, Pakistan Railways launches cross bordertransit freight train service to neighbouring country Afghanistan.
Pakistan Railways inaugurated the Goods in Transit to Afghanistan (GITA)Train here on Friday.
The inauguration of the cross-border freight train is said to be one of themajor achievements during the ongoing calendar year, which has been termedas ‘Freight Year’ aimed primarily at enhancing the revenue generation viatransportation of goods through cargo services.
The train will transit cargo from Karachi towards Chaman and Kandahar.
Besides reducing the traffic flow from major roads and highways, theaddition of this cross-border train in Pakistan’s existing cargo fleet isnot only expected to increase revenue generation but it is said to alsohelp in curtailing the income-expenditure gap of Pakistan Railways.
