DOHA : Afghan Taliban break silence over the important meeting between topCommander and Pakistani officials.
The Taliban released the details of the meeting between Mullah Abdul GhaniBaradar, the deputy political chief with the top envoy of the Pakistan toAfghanistan, NNI has reported.
“Mullah Baradar Akhund, the Political Deputy-Amir, IEA and Head of thePolitical Office met in Doha, Mohammad Sadiq Khan, Pakistan SpecialRepresentative for Afghanistan and discussed with him problems being facedby the Afghan refugees, businessmen and travellers at Turkham, Spinboldskand Ghulam Khan, urging him to provide them needed facilities.
Similarly, both sides talked about the coming intra-Afghan negotiations andpeace. They emphasized that peace and security in Afghanistan were in theinterest of both nations and countries,” Suhail Shaheen, a spokesman forthe political office of Taliban said in his tweets.
A spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry of Pakistan had earlier told thatSpecial Representative for Afghanistan, Ambass-ador (R) Muhammad Sadiqvisited Doha, Qatar on 16-17 June 2020.
During the visit, he met Taliban leaders including Mullah Ghani Baradar todiscuss peace and reconciliation process.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry in a statement said, the SpecialRepresentative underlined that Pakistan will continue to play its role as afacilitator for peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan.
In this context, he referred to the highly productive visit of the Chief ofArmy Staff to Kabul recently, which had imparted a new impetus toPakistan’s efforts.
“The Special Representative appreciated the Taliban’s commitment toimplement the U.S.-Taliban peace agreement. He also noted that the releaseof prisoners as per the US-Taliban peace agreement would be a steppingstone towards the immediate start of Intra-Afghan Negotiations,” thestatement added.
