Pakistan responds on UNHRC resolution over grave human rights violations by Israel

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Friday welcomed the adoption of the resolution bythe United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in response to graveviolations of international law and human rights by Israel.

“Pakistan stands in solidarity with the Palestinian people and shares theinternational community’s expectation for effective implementation of thisresolution to ensure respect for international law as well as for rightsand dignity of the people of Palestine,” the Foreign Office said.

The FO further said that the UNHRC special session and its decision toestablish a standing international commission of inquiry to investigatehuman rights violations represent global resolve to end systemic impunityand injustice and begin a process of meaningful accountability.

On Thursday, the UNHRC decided to create an open-ended internationalinvestigation into violations surrounding the latest Gaza violence, andinto “systematic” abuses in the Palestinian territories and inside Israel.

The resolution, which passed with 24 of the council’s 47 members in favour,will spur an unprecedented level of scrutiny on abuses and their “rootcauses” in the decades-long Middle East conflict.
