ISLAMABAD-United Nations has urged wealthy nations to step up their efforts in supporting poor countries to effectively fight against coronavirus pandemic.
In a media statement, UN aid Chief Mark Lowcock, said that the response from rich economies has so far been grossly inadequate and shortsighted.
He warned that the pandemic and associated global recession could push over 265 million people to the brink of starvation, if no action has been taken for now.
The United Nations earlier appealed for more than ten billion dollars aid to help poor countries to tackle the spread and destabilizing effects of the coronavirus.
