DOHA (TOLOnews): Zalmay Khalilzad, the US special representative forAfghanistan reconciliation, on Thursday, met with the Taliban deputy leaderAbdul Ghani Baradar and their chief negotiator Mawlawi Abdul Hakim in Dohaamidst delay in the start of the direct negotiations between both sides ofthe talks.
Taliban spokesman Mohammad Naeem said it was insisted in the meeting thatmore efforts should be made for the implementation of the US-Talibanagreement. He said that the release of Taliban prisoners was also discussedin the meeting.
Khalilzad is visiting Doha at least three weeks after the inaugurationceremony of Afghanistan’s peace negotiations in Doha.
Negotiating teams of both sides of the talks have held six meetings incontact groups level to discuss their procedural rules, but they are yet toagree on two out of 20 articles.
Taliban spokesman Mohammad Naeem on Thursday said that the group does notfeel the need for a mediator for the Afghan peace negotiations and statedthat resolving a 40-year conflict requires patience to reach a conclusion.
