India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) said on Sunday it had arrested9 al-Qaeda-linked militants who were planning attacks in several places,including the capital New Delhi.
According to the statement, the detainees were prepared for attacks inseveral places, including the capital.
While six terrorists were arrested from Bengal, three terrorists werearrested from Kerala in the early morning raids, it added.
“Large quantity of incriminating materials including digital devices,documents, jihadi literature, sharp weapons, country-made firearms, alocally fabricated body armour, articles and literature used for makinghome-made explosive devices have been seized from their possession,” theNIA said, adding that “these individuals were radicalised by Pakistan-basedAl-Qaeda terrorists on social media and were motivated to undertake attacksat multiple places,” including Delhi-NCR.
India last year stepped up offensives against militants in Muslim-majorityKashmir and some other areas under its control. Indian forces killed anal-Qaeda-linked group leader in Kashmir, prompting protests in variousparts of the disputed area.
In recent raids, the NIA has also recovered sharp-edged equipment,home-made weapons and locally made bulletproof jackets.
