Federal government unveils date for the completion of the Karachi Circular Railways Project

ISLAMABAD – Federal government unveils date for the completion of theKarachi Circular Railways Project.

The government has decided to complete the much-awaited Karachi CircularRailways for Karachi by mid-2023.

Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives AsadUmar chaired a progress review meeting of the Karachi Circular Railway(KCR) project.

Secretary Railway, CEO PPP Authority and senior officials participated inthe meeting.

It was informed in the meeting that work has started on various phases ofKCR project and timely completion of each phase will be ensured. TheMinistry of Railways is also constantly in touch with the Sindh Governmentand work on underpasses at various places is expected to start soon.

Federal Minister for Planning Asad Umar directed Pakistan Railways toformulate a system of public-private partnership for the third phase of KCRproject. He said that Karachi Circular Railway is an important project; itwill not only provide modern transport facilities to the people of Karachibut it will also be a very attractive project for investment.

It was decided in the meeting that necessary steps will be takenimmediately to involve the private sector in the project. This process willbe completed within the current financial year and work on the third phasewill be ensured.

Further, the Public Private Partnership Authority will provide necessaryfull cooperation and assistance to the Ministry of Railways in this regard.
