Saudi Arabia’s Directorate General of Counter-Narcotics seized millions ofamphetamine tablets in a joint operation with the General CustomsAuthority, thwarting attempts to smuggle large quantities of drugs into thecountry from abroad.
Mohammed Khaled al-Najidi, a spokesman for Saudi Arabia’s anti-narcoticsagency, said authorities and security agencies working to curb drugsmuggling searched a container arriving at the port of Jeddah thatcontained 2.1 million amphetamines in crates of grapes. 90,500 bullets werehidden.
The spokesman said eight suspects, including two foreigners and six locals,had been arrested in connection with the attempt to smuggle largequantities of drugs.
Al-Najidi said that action has been initiated against the arrested accusedin accordance with the law. He urged the citizens to immediately point outany attempt of corruption to the competent authorities and contact thehelpline number 995 for this purpose.
