ISLAMABAD – As the joint Opposition is all set to create hindrance inproceedings of the National Assembly, the government allied partners assuretheir full support in disposing of pending legislative business. The seniormembers of the ruling party [PTI] had contacted heads of its coalitionpartners to seek their support in and outside Parliament against ongoinganti-government campaign, says Parliamentary sources.
The joint opposition have openly threatened an anti-government long marchand disruption during the proceedings of the National Assembly. Thegovernment side, in reaction to the opposition’s expected plans, has takenits coalition partners into confidence about its planning to counteropposition’s move in the Parliament.
Background discussions with lawmakers from Treasury benches revealed thatgovernment members had contacted the allied partners including MuttahidaQaumi Movement (MQM-P) and Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) and chalked outjoint strategy against the anti-government intentions of the jointopposition.
The members of allied forces said that the government members had askedits coalition partners to ensure full strength in the parliamentaryproceedings also appear in media to express solidarity with them. PrimeMinister Imran Khan has also held a meeting with the parliamentary leadersof its allied forces to take them into confidence about future strategy.
It may be noted here that Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), the 11-partyopposition alliance had announced that it will hold a long march toIslamabad by late January or early February to oust Prime Minister ImranKhan-led Pakistan-Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government. Political andconstitutional experts viewed that the ruling party should dispose ofimportant legislative business and try to complete mandatory days of thirdparliamentary year. They should have jointly appeared in media against theopposition move to show solidarity to express unity, they viewed.
The opposition, around a week ago, had also hinted at tabling no-confidencemove at any moment after deciding its proper time from the platform ofPakistan Democratic Movement (PDM). PML-N’s Parliamentary leader KhawajaMuhammad Asif, before his arrest, had commented that all the decisionsrelated to no-confidence motion could be taken jointly in PakistanDemocratic Movement (PDM).
