His statement followed a telephone conversation between Jake Sullivan, thenew US national security adviser, and his Afghan counterpart HamdullahMohib.

The Biden administration on Friday said it is looking to review the dealbetween Washington and the Taliban.

In the conversation with Sullivan, Mohib said that they agreed to worktoward a permanent cease-fire and a just and durable peace in Afghanistan“capable of preserving the gains of the past two decades, protecting therights of all Afghans, and continuing the reforms.”

He said in a series of tweets on Saturday that Sullivan affirmed that thepartnership with the government of Afghanistan and Afghan security anddefense forces remains a priority and a key to US national securityobjectives. “We will continue close consultations in the days and weeksahead,” he added.
