Facebook-owned WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will revamp thearchived chats option we currently have. The update will replace theArchive inbox with a “Read later” section.
The feature was spotted by WABetainfo that usually works on uncoveringupcoming WhatsApp features by digging into the beta versions. Whileexplaining this feature, the blog said:
When a chat is added in your archive, the user doesn’t receivenotifications from it because all archived chats will be automaticallymuted, in order to reduce interruptions.
This means that once a chat is added to the “Read later” section, it willgo into a separate inbox just like Archived chats, but it will be mutedforever, unlike before. This would allow you to move unwanted chats out ofthe way and not have them interrupt you with notifications. Of course, youcan always jump into the “Read later” section and check your messages lateron.
You can also configure your Read later inbox to send chats back to the mainscreen when they get new messages or keep them muted.
According to WABetainfo, the feature is still under development and thereis no word on when it will see a public rollout. Stay tuned for updates.
