In a recent media report, it has been revealed that Ghandhara IndustriesLtd. (GIL) is planning to launch the Isuzu MU-X SUV in Pakistan. The MU-Xis Isuzu’s mid-size SUV that, if and when introduced, would go up againstthe likes of Toyota Fortuner and KIA Sorento.
Like the Toyota Fortuner, the MU-X is a body-on-frame SUV with 3-rowseating, that shares the platform with its twin-brother, the Isuzu D-Maxpickup truck.
Furthermore, like the D-Max, it is most commonly offered in theinternational market with a 3.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder diesel enginethat makes 174 hp and 380 nm of torque and is mated to a 5-speed automatictransmission that sends power to all four wheels.
However, unlike the D-Max, the suspension setup of the MU-X is designed fora comfortable drive on the roads. Where the D-Max features a leaf-springsetup at the back for heavy load carrying, the MU-X features a much moreintricate multi-link coil-spring setup outback, allowing for a smooth ride.

The Isuzu D-Max was launched in Pakistan back in 2018. The truck has sincereportedly grabbed 15 percent of the market share from the Toyota Hiluxpickup truck. However, the media reports suggest that the price hikes dueto the depreciation of the local currency amid the COVID-19 lockdownsresulted in a significant decrease in demand.

Furthermore, with the economic activities being shut down during thelockdowns, the production and supply of the vehicles also went downsignificantly. However, GIL is gaining back the lost momentum and isplanning to enter the burgeoning SUV market of Pakistan.
Details are scarce as to when the MU-X will be launched here in Pakistan,but it can be said with certainty that the mid-size SUV segment of Pakistanshall gain another strong contender, as and when the MU-X makes its debut.——————————
