Despite a solid start to the Test series by Shaheen Afridi and MohammadAbbas, the backup failed miserably. Naseem Shah and Yasir Shah wereineffective in the first Test match, giving away runs at a fast pace, whileNaseem Shah and Zafar Gohar were the culprits in the second Test match.

Pakistan bowling unit looked dejected at their inability to pick up wicketsat regular intervals, but the most worrisome sign for Pakistan was theirinability to contain the run flow.

Once Shaheen and Abbas finished their spells early on, the runs started toflow for New Zealand. Naseem Shah’s economy rate in the first innings ofthe first Test match was 3.84, which increased to 4.40 in the secondinnings. In the second Test match, his economy rate increased even further. He conceded 141 runs at an economy rate of 5.42.——————————

This is the second-worst economy for a bowler going wicket-less for 25 ormore overs in a Test inning. Pakistan’s Yasir Shah tops this list with aneconomy rate of 6.15.
