PM Imran Khan chairs meeting of the federal cabinet

Prime Minister Imran Khan will chair a meeting of the federal cabinet inIslamabad today to mull over the COVID-19, economic and political situationof the country.

According to the details, the cabinet would discuss the appointment of thePress Council of Pakistan members besides also discussions would be held toapprove a name for the chairman of the board of directors of Pakistan ExpoCentres.

The cabinet would also be briefed over a hearing on the trade organizationact.

The agenda also included the formation of an inspection committee forregistration of fish processing plants, resolution of a dispute betweenrailways and defence ministry over the construction of a multi-storEybuilding in Nowshera and review on cabinet decision regarding establishmenttaken during a 1997 meeting.

Moreover, the federal cabinet is likely to assign the additionalresponsibility of chief executive officer of the Alternative EnergyDevelopment Board (AEDB) to an officer from a proposed panel.

It is worth mentioning here that the cabinet had earlier approved theappointment of Dr. Jabbar as the CEO of AEDB on July 30, 2019, and hisappointment was notified on August 9, 2019. However, he tenderedresignation on November 26, 2020, at one month’s notice.

The meeting would also approve the decisions of the cabinet sub-committeeon institutional reforms taken on 17 December 2020 besides also approving adecision on cases by legislation’s sub-committee on December 31 2020.
