Middle-order batsman, Fawad Alam, made the headlines on the final day ofthe first Test match between Pakistan and New Zealand by scoring amagnificent century and getting Pakistan within touching distance of anunlikely draw.——————————

The cricketing fraternity around the world lauded Fawad’s valiant effort.However, the team ultimately fell short of a draw. Fawad scored 102 of 269balls before being sent back to the pavilion by Neil Wagner.

This was Fawad’s second Test century with the first coming in his debutmatch against Sri Lanka in 2009. He became the first man in the history ofcricket to score a hundred, then miss out for more than a decade ofinternational cricket and score another century after making his comeback.

Fawad also became the first Pakistani batsman to score a century in thefourth innings in New Zealand.——————————

Fawad also became the first Pakistani player to spend more than 360 minutesin the fourth innings of a Test match outside Asia in this century. Theprevious best was Asad Shafiq’s sublime century against Australia inBrisbane in 2016, where he spent 336 minutes on the pitch.

The partnership between Fawad Alam and Mohammad Rizwan gave Pakistan aglimmer of hope, but New Zealand bowled Pakistan out in the last hour ofthe day’s play.
