Islamabad: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Monday extendedrestrictions on passengers coming from the United Kingdom for a weekbecause of concerns over new variants of COVID-19.
On December 21, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) directedthe CAA to impose restrictions after reviewing the situation of coronavirusmutation and its spread in the UK.
A number of countries have suspended travel from the UK because of concernsover the spread of the virus as they are recently recovering from thefallout of ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier, the new restrictions were imposed for a one week (December 22-29)and now these have been extended till January 4, 2021.
The restrictions will be applicable to all persons who originate travelfrom the UK and are in or have been in UK over the past 10 days.
Transit passengers (who do not leave airside in UK) from destinations otherthan UK will be allowed to travel into Pakistan while Pakistani passportholders, who have travelled to UK on visitor/temporary visas, will also beallowed enter the country with certain arrangements.
The inbound passengers will have to present negative PCR test, performedwithin 72 hours prior to flight, on arrival.
They will also undergo the test after arrival while passenger will berequired to stay in the airport or in government facility until PCR test isreceived.
All passengers from the UK will be required to home quarantine for 7 days.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has been asked to issue necessaryguidelines to all airlines for implementation of NCOC decisions.
