The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has established anIslamic Center for the city’s transgender community. The community willalso be provided monetary assistance and jobs with the help of the privatesector.
The objective of the initiative is to alleviate and facilitate thismarginalized section of society by allowing them to cope with their dailychallenges.——————————
Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat, was one of theattendees of the inauguration ceremony of the center.
While addressing the ceremony, he announced the availability of jobs fordouble MA degree holders, and distributed blankets, quilts, and rationamong the members of the community. He also directed the members of thecommunity who are graduates to submit their documents to the ICTadministration for job placements.
Transgenders face numerous challenges in Pakistan that vary from beingstigmatized to being discriminated against and ostracized from generalsociety. In addition to often being deprived of education and basicfacilities, most of them are abandoned by their families and cohabitate inshared houses.
Owing to their helplessness and physical and mental abuse, most of them arecompelled to indulge in inappropriate activities like becoming sex workers,dancers, and beggars.
