Opposition Alliance PDM formally breaks apart

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Democratic Movement has decided to form a new allianceof five opposition parties excluding the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) andAwami National Party (ANP).

The former eleven party alliances chief will also issue show-cause noticesto PPP and ANP for opposing its consensus decision and getting the supportof alliance from the government parties.

The remaining parties, consisting of 27 members are PML-N, JUI-F, NationalParty of late Hasil Bizenjo, Balochistan National Party (BNP) of AkhtarMengal, Jamiat Ahle Hadith of Professor Sajid Mir, JUP of Maulana Noorani,PkMAP of Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Aftab Sherpao’s Qaumi Watan Party (QWP).

All these decisions were taken at a meeting of senators of five oppositionparties, a press release of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) stated.

After the rift between the two major parties, the new group will be led bythe PML-N designated opposition leader Senator Azam Nazir Tarrar.

Earlier in March, the PDM had decided that the Pakistan Peoples Party willget the chairmanship of Senate while the deputy chairman will go to JUI-Fand the PML-N will get the office of the leader of Opposition.

PPP and JUI-F failed to bag the upper house polls. Afterward, the PPPbacked out of consensus understanding and opted to get the slot of theOpposition leader by roping in some members of the Balochistan Awami Party(BAP) party, which is part of the government.
