Malaysian High Commisioner expresses keen interest in bilateral ties with Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: High Commissioner of Malaysia in Pakistan Ikram Bin MuhammadIbrahim has said that his country is interested in greater bilateral tradewith Pakistan.

He was speaking as a chief guest at a reception organised by formerIslamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) executive member Mian ArifHussain at Kahuta Industrial Triangle. ICCI President Sardar Yasir IlyasKhan, Founder Group Chairman Mian Akram Farid and representatives ofbusiness communities from the twin cities were present on the occasion.

The Malaysian high commissioner, however, pointed out that lack ofconnectivity between the private sectors of the two countries was a bighurdle in promoting bilateral trade up to the real potential and urged bothgovernments to urgently address the issue.

He suggested that Pakistani manufacturers should focus on products thathave greater demand in the global market to improve exports, adding thatPakistani food processing products have good scope to penetrate theMalaysian market.Article continues after this advertisement

The envoy stressed that private sectors of both countries must take fulladvantage of the Pak-Malaysia FTA to improve two-way trade volume.

Speaking on the occasion, ICCI President Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan agreedthat Pak-Malaysia bilateral trade was not reflective of the real potentialand called for the governments of both countries to facilitate privatesectors in promoting two-way trade.

He said that many Pakistani products including rice, wheat, mangoes, halalfood, seafood, meat products, cutlery & sports goods, spices, handicrafts,light engineering goods, hospital and surgical equipment, pharmaceuticalsand gems & jewelry, could find a good market in Malaysia.
