Pakistan raises strong voice against Indian military use of mass rapes in Occupied Kashmir

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has urged the international community to play itsrole to address the systematic violence against women in Indian IllegallyOccupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K).

In a statement, Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri saidthe incidents of systematic violence and mass rapes in Indian IllegallyOccupied Jammu and Kashmir have been documented by a number of independentCommissions, human rights organizations, global media and civil societyorganizations, including the UN Office of the High Commissioner for HumanRights.

“Today, we sadly remember the horrific incident of mass rape of Kashmiriwomen in Kunan and Poshpora villages of IIOJK on this day in 1991,” hesaid. He added that the fateful day continues to remain a scar oncollective memory of the international community.

The FO spokesperson said lack of accountability of perpetrators and absenceof justice for victims continue to define India’s deliberate disregard forrule of law and human rights.

He said India has employed rape, torture, degrading treatment and killingsof Kashmiri women as instruments of state terrorism in the occupiedterritory.

Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said these state sanctioned heinous crimes havefurther intensified since India’s illegal and unilateral actions of 5thAugust 2019.
