In a positive development, Pakistan’s first transit consignment to Central Asia passed border point

First transit consignment to Central Asia passed through Pakistan-Afghanborder point link — Ghulam Khan Crossing —which was opened in June last year to promote business activities among theregional countries.

Pakistan’s Special Representative to Afghanistan Mohammad Sadiq said in atweet on Saturday that the route is the shortest between Pakistan,Afghanistan and beyond.

He added that the residents of Khost province of Afghanistan and Pakistan’sNorth Waziristan tribal district hailed the development as it will createjob opportunities for locals.

“Congrats: first transit consignment to Central Asia passed through GhulamKhan crossing yesterday. This route is the shortest between Pakistan’scoast & Afghanistan & beyond. Residents of Khost province celebrated thisdevelopment which will create jobs in Khost & N Waziristan,” he wrote onhis Twitter handle.

Pakistan last year opened its three border points with Afghanistan,including Torkham, Chaman and Ghulam Khan, for 24/6 in order to increasethe volume of trade and promote business activities between the twocountries.

According to a notification issued by the interior ministry, the threeborder terminals would remain open for imports and exports from and toAfghanistan, with an unlimited number of trucks to be allowed per day forboth Afghan transit and bilateral trade, while ensuring the standardoperating procedures and protocols related to the Covid-19.
