A large number of students held a protest demonstration in front of theIndian embassy in Iran’s capital city, Tehran against the ban on head Hijabin Indian state Karnataka colleges and schools.
According to the Kashmir media service, the protesters called upon theIranian authorities to issue a statement and take measures against thehijab diktat of the Bharatiya Janata Party ruled Karnataka stategovernment, which has been campaigning for a Uniform Civil Code across thecountry.
The Iranian students, who participated in the rally, described the new headHijab restrictions as discriminatory against Muslims in India and called ita violation of the basic human right to freedom of clothing.
The protesters demonstrate that the right to choose one’s attire andclothing is an important part of freedom of expression guaranteed underArticle 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, of which India isa signatory.
