In a positive development, Pakistan’s IT exports to cross 3.5 billions

Speakers at a webinar have said that Pakistan’s IT sector is poised to growexponentially in the coming months and years with the country’s IT exportsgrowing from 2.1 billion dollars to an approximate 3.5 billion dollars thisfiscal year.

The webinar was organized by the Consulate General of Pakistan Toronto onthe theme of “Pakistan Canada IT Cooperation: Connecting the Dots”.

They said the IT industry in Pakistan is burgeoning and the government istaking the right steps for its further growth. These include enhancingnumber of IT graduates from 25,000 to 50,000, setting up softwaretechnology parks in large to 2nd tier cities, improving access to capitalby IT companies, reducing tax disputes, enhancing financial structure of ITcompanies and listing them at the stock exchange.

In his opening remarks Consul General of Pakistan in Toronto Abdul Hameedsaid it is widely believed that Pakistan has the potential to claim a muchhigher share of the market than it currently enjoys.

He also shared the statistics about the size and growth trajectory of ICTsector of Canada.

MD PSEB Osman Nasir said large technology parks are being set up in themega cities, in addition to establishing software technology parks insecond or third tier cities.

Ex-President PASHA Barkan Saeed presented an overview of the ITC industryin Pakistan. He was of the view that during this year, the exports from ITsector would touch 3.5 billion dollars from 2.1 billion dollars last year.

President CM Inc. Hassan Naqvi said the quality and skill of Pakistani ITprofessionals is high.

CEO Techlogix Kewan Khawaja recommended that more Pakistani delegationsshould visit ITC events in Canada and North America and with change intraditional sales model, CEOs from Pakistani ITC companies need to attendand speak on international events to mark their presence.
