Prominent US daily the Wall Street Journal has slammed Indian PrimeMinister Narendra Modi’s U-turn on farm laws following the massive protestsby farmers.
In an article, the paper wrote that the move is a face saving measureclearly motivated by the concern that angry farmers will endanger Modi’sBharati Janata Party in elections next year in states such as UttarPradesh.
The paper reports that despite Modi’s withdrawal of laws, the protestingfarmers show no signs of relenting, and plans are underway for marches instate capitals and toward Parliament on 26th of this month.
Meanwhile, the main farmer union Samyukt Kisan Morcha says it is closelywatching the repeal process and opposition leader Rahul Gandhi called thedecision a victory against injustice.
