Federal Government through ordinance gets power to fire NAB Chief

The government has promulgated another National Accountability Bureau(Amendment) Ordinance on Monday taking back the authority of removing the NABchief link from the Supreme JudicialCouncil and giving it to the Presidentlink, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Reportedly, after the approval of Presidentlink Arif Alvi, the government haspromulgated the third NAB (Amendment) Ordinance, 2021.

According to the new ordinance, the NAB will deal with the cases filedunder the Anti-Money Laundering Act. The accountability courts would keepon adjudicating the references lodged under this Act. Fraud, swindling andMudarba cases have been given back to the national anti-graft watchdog.

The prerogative to remove link the NAB chieflink has been taken back from theSupreme Judicial Council. Now the Presidentlink will have the authority to dismissthe NAB head according to the amended ordinance.

The old cases of fake accounts will be investigated by the NAB under thenew ordinance.

The new ordinance will be applicable from Oct 6. The money laundering andfraud cases initiated before Oct 6 will be dealt with under the previousordinance.
